The Thing About a COVID-19 Laptop Server “Rack”

Not actually a server rack but three laptops on a bookcase.

This was a small project right at the start of COVID-19, where I needed two Universal Robots UR3e robot arms under ROS control. Given that it was early lockdown there was no way I was getting access to the lab, I had to do everything in simulation on a fairly old laptop from my MSOE days. I did, however, have two old Dell Latitude laptops that could perfectly run the UR emulator. Each would act as a robot over the network plus my brother’s old personal laptop as a control PC running ROS.

Sometimes you are forced to get creative (bonus points if it actually worked).
